With bike lanes set to open in the downtown core, the City of Calgary is looking at making some changes to their traffic bylaws to make things safer for cyclists.

A city committee will be debating changes to the traffic bylaw that will include fining any vehicles mistakenly parked in a bike lane or pedestrians who don’t give cyclists right of way.

The 7 Street cycle track runs between 3 and 8 Ave. in the southwest.

Once all the changes have been laid out, the committee will then forward its proposal to council for a vote.

That is expected to take place next month, sometime after the bike lanes open on July 1.
