A group of concerned residents gathered outside McDougall Centre in Calgary on Thursday to protest the province’s plan to build a dry dam west of the city.
Bragg Creek residents are worried that the project, aimed at preventing flooding in the City of Calgary, will end up flooding their homes just as much as they were back during the 2013 flood.
They're suggesting that the project should really be built further upstream at Mclean Creek instead of the proposed location.
The group says that if the dam is built as per their suggestion, it would save many other communities, such as Redwood Meadows as well as much of the land on the Tsuu T'ina First Nation, including Bragg Creek.
The province says the option for the dam in Springbank is cheaper and will take less time to build.
Protesters aren't satisfied however, and say that it should be in place to reduce the risk for the most amount of people, no matter how long it takes or how much it costs.
