Despite the efforts of members of an Oregon Search and Rescue agency, with assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard, the Pacific Ocean claimed Jerry Brett, a 53-year-old man from Drumheller, on Tuesday afternoon.

As approximately 5:30 p.m., members of the City of Seaside Fire & Rescue team were dispatched to Seaside Beach following reports Brett had gone under water.

Several minutes later, the man was spotted in the water by lifeguards and bystanders at a spot several blocks from the original sighting.

An unresponsive Brett was brought to shore where he received CPR and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Attempts to revive the man proved unsuccessful.

One of Brett's final posts to social media, posted on the day of his drowning, exhibited his love for the ocean.

"Oh, i do like to be beside the sea. Oh, I do like to be beside the — at Seaside Beach"

Seaside, Oregon is located approximately 125 kilometres northwest of Portland, Oregon.
