The Calgary Humane Society is holding an Emergency Cat Adoption Event.
It has too many cats that need homes.
The Humane Society currently has 257 cats at the shelter and another 102 in foster care.
To help get the cats adopted, the cost of adoption has been slashed to $25. Usually it cost between 75 to 149 dollars to adopt an adult cat. The fee includes spay/neuter surgery, microchips, tattoos, and vaccinations. The cost of adopting a kitten remains at $185.
This problem of too many cats and too few homes often happens in the summer since there’s an overall increase of kittens.
However this year, Phil Fulton from the Humane society says “there’s a higher than usual number of kittens.”
What this overabundance of cats means is that all the adoption kennels that the public can view are full and there are nearly 200 cats in the holding kennels in the back waiting to be moved up front.
The cats in foster care are also waiting to come back into the shelter so they can be put up for adoption too.
The dog situation is not an issue.
