Calgarians and residents of southern Alberta are invited to take part in the sixth annual Sugar Bowl Lawn Bowling tournament which raises funds for young writers.

The Amber Webb-Bowerman Memorial Foundation, which bears the name of a former SAIT journalism student who was murdered in 2008 in her Dalhousie home, has raised more than $75,000 for:

  • A scholarship in perpetuity for journalism students at SAIT Polytechnic
  • The establishment of an endowment scholarship for a student in the journalism field at Mount Royal University
  • Sponsoring the WordsWorth Creative Writing Residency

The Sugar Bowl Law Bowling tournament will take place:

  • Saturday, August 16, 2014
  • Rotary Park Lawn Bowling Club (705 1 St. N.E.)
  • 1:00 p.m.

Registration fees for the event, which is open to players of all skill levels (including rookies) are:

  • $70 per player entry
  • $280 for a team of four (team registration includes team name buttons and two fan tickets)
  • $15 for fan tickets

A BBQ dinner and drink tickets, sponsored by Village Brewery and SAITSA, will be supplied to all participants and fans, and a silent auction will raise additional funds for the foundation.
