Alberta's first baby of 2025 was born in Calgary two minutes into the new year, according to Health Minister Adriana LaGrange.

LaGrange said in a social media post the girl, named Amira, was born at the South Health Campus and weighed four pounds and 14.3 ounces.

"We wish all of the New Year’s babies and families health, happiness, and plenty of sleep," the minister said.
