Fire crews worked quickly to contain a fire at a northwest home on Thursday afternoon and investigators are looking into a cause.

The fire broke out at a home at 195 Arbour Stone Rise NW at about 12:15 p.m. and flames and smoke were billowing from the roof when crews arrived.

The fire was fully involved so firefighters launched a defensive attack to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes.

The homes on either side were evacuated as a precaution and did sustain some minor damage to the vinyl siding.

Crews searched the basement and main floor of the home once the fire was out to make sure no one was inside.

Officials say a search of the second floor has not been done because of structural concerns.

They say a tenant who lives in the basement has not been accounted for and it is not known if he was home when the fire broke out.

A fire investigator is working to determine where the fire started and a cause.

The Calgary Fire Department is asking anyone who may have early images or video of the fire to send them to piofire@calgary.ca.
