Authorities are now investigating after the body of a Calgary man was found by a pair of fishermen fishing in the Elbow River near the Weaselhead Bridge on Saturday.

At about 5:00 p.m. on March 7, two fishermen were fishing on the river near the Weaselhead Bridge when they say they spotted a body near the water’s edge.

Tsuu T’ina Police Service officers were called to the area, where they found the partially burned body of a man.

The RCMP was called to assist in the investigation, and the Calgary Medical Examiner determined that the man, an 18-year-old from Calgary, was a victim of a homicide.

“Through our investigation it has been determined that this male does not have any ties to the Tsuu T’ina Nation nor the residents of the Tsuu T’ina Nation that we are aware of and as a result of that the RCMP Major Crimes Unit South will be taking over the investigation,” said Sgt Shane Powers with Tsuu T’ina Police Service.

The man has been identified but his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Police are requesting that anyone with information about this incident come forward and contact the RCMP at 403-420-4913 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
