The federal government plans to contribute more than $44 million in funding for a number of Parks Canada projects in Kootenay National Park.
On Saturday morning, David Wilks, Kootenay-Columbia MP, announced the funding near the entrance to the Radium Hot Springs.
“Our Government is committed to renewing visitor facilities which will allow Canadians to connect with our national parks and national historic sites,” said Wilks. “These projects will enhance the world class offer available in Kootenay National Park, and continue to draw visitors from around the world.”
Projects set to benefit from the allotted funds include:
- Improvements to Highway 93 South
- Repairs at the Radium Hot Springs, Canada’s largest hot springs pool
- Flood repairs to the park’s campgrounds, bridges and day-use areas
Each year, approximately 400,000 people visit Kootenay National Park.
