The floods last June damaged the banks along the Bow River exposing a lot of debris and officials have deemed the Harvie Passage unsafe for recreational users.
The Calgary Fire Department will be installing a safety barrier system upstream from the passage over the next few days to keep boaters out.
Officials say the popular water course will remain closed until repairs can be completed and orange buoys connected by chains will be placed across the span of the passage.
The reconstruction of Harvie Passage is expected to be finished in 2016.
