A 37-year-old man is facing charges after Lethbridge police were called to a westside school for a weapons complaint on Wednesday morning.

Police responded to Mike Mountain Horse School at 155 Jerry Potts Boulevard at about 10:00 a.m. after someone called 911 saying a man had entered the school saying he was being chased and had a weapon.

Investigators say staff did not see a weapon and were able to contain the man in an empty room.

Officials at the school then initiated a lockdown while they waited for police to arrive.

The man was taken into custody without incident and police found a hatchet concealed in his coat when they searched him.

A room-by-room search was conducted by police following the incident and no other subjest were found.

Police say early indications suggest the man may have been under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

No one was injured in the incident and charges are pending.
