Heavy rainfall is expected for Calgary and many other areas in Western Alberta - but are you really that surprised?
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Friday ahead of the deluge expected over the May long weekend.
It says that a system from B.C. will be bringing heavy rainfall in the Alberta foothills starting on Saturday.
It's expected to persist through the whole weekend, tapering off finally on Monday evening.
Officials say it's not certain which area will receive the bulk of the rainfall.
Forecasts show Airdrie northwest to Grande Cache could see between 30mm and 75mm with up to 100mm in some locations.
The heaviest rain is currently expected in the Nordegg and Rocky Mountain House regions.
Calgary and the Mountain Parks could see between 25 to 40mm of rain by Monday evening.
However, there is a lot of uncertainty with the forecast heading into the weekend so it is important to keep checking the forecast and be prepared for any possible weather warnings posted in the coming days.
