Two of the most prominent figures of the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games have found a new home.

Friday afternoon, Hidy and Howdy, the beloved mascot bears of the XV Olympiad, were added to an exhibit featuring Olympic memorabilia at Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame at Canada Olympic Park.

Honoured guests at the induction ceremony included Calgary Olympic Committee Chair Frank King, the Volunteer Chairman of the Mascot Committee Lane Kranenberg, and Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame’s Colin MacDonald and Mario Siciliano.

Siciliano, the president and CEO of the Hall of Fame, says Hidy and Howdy are great additions to the Hall’s Olympic collection.

“Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame is honoured to welcome Hidy and Howdy to our collection of historical Canadian sport artefacts,” says Siciliano.  “Hidy and Howdy’s popularity, particularly with young children, will make them an emerging part of our education program.”

Hidy and Howdy are not the first mascots to be displayed at the Hall of Fame.  The bears will join Miga, Sumi, and Quatchi, the mascots of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
