A Saturday morning collision east of Calgary has left two adults dead, and sent two others to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Shortly after 7:00 a.m., emergency crews were called to a location on Highway 797, near Township Road 240, following reports of a collision. At the crash site, roughly three kilometres north of Langdon, first responders located a severely damaged car and SUV.
The driver of the car, a 19-year-old man from Langdon, was pronounced dead at the scene. The unidentified male was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
Three adults were in the SUV at the time of the crash. A 28-year-old woman from Langdon suffered fatal injuries and died at the crash site.
A woman in her 40s suffered serious injuries and was airlifted by a STARS Air Ambulance crews to the Foothills Medical Centre. The patient was transported in stable condition.
The third occupant of the SUV, a man in his 50s, was transported by ground ambulance to hospital in serious but stable condition.
RCMP closed the north and south lanes of the undivided highway for several hours. The highway reopened shortly before 2:00 p.m.
The identities of the deceased have not been released.
RCMP continue to investigate the fatal crash.
