A man believed to be responsible for a fatal Monday morning hit-and-run on Centre St. N. has turned himself in to police
At approximately 4:00 a.m., officers responded to a crash involving a car and a pedestrian near the intersection of Centre St. and 40 Ave. N.
The driver of the car, believed to be a gold Honda Accord, failed to remain at the scene.
The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to hospital in life threatening condition and succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
Family members have identified the victim as 26-year-old Moises Morales. The Calgary man, originally from Nicaragua, is remembered by family as a hard worker who never caused trouble.
"He was an excellent kid," his stepfather Harold said. "He was a hard worker. He even worked on holidays. He was a workaholic and never had any problems, never involved in alcohol or drugs or stuff like that."
Morales is survived by his mother, stepfather and five siblings, ranging in age from three to twenty eight.
The suspect returned to the crash scene on Monday morning and turned himself in to police. Police say the man remains in custody and charges are pending.
Officers blocked off Centre Street between 37 and 40 Ave. for the investigation for several hours, opening the road at shortly after 11 a.m.
