A man is still in critical condition after he was stabbed on Tuesday afternoon while in downtown Calgary.

Police say he was stabbed near the Community Natural Foods on 10 Ave. S.W. and then got into a car and drove for about a block before stopping.

10 Ave. between 9 and 10 St. S.W. was shut down for hours following the incident.

Police were called to the scene for reports of a shooting, but found no evidence of any firearms in the area.

Lorna Curran, with the Calgary Urban Project Society, says they sent their medical staff from their office nearby to render aid. “Our medical staff came down to do an assessment – that’s why you see some of the gloves on the street. There was a passenger in the vehicle. She was an older woman, Asian, but spoke no English. We called 911 and police arrived on the scene.”

Adam Loria with EMS says the victim was transported to the Foothills Hospital in critical condition.

The CPS Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
