The Calgary Flames have fired their head coach.
General Manager, Darryl Sutter issued a statement late Friday afternoon saying a detailed evaluation was conducted over the past three weeks and he believed it was necessary to make a change.
Sutter says removing Keenan from the helm will help allow the Flames reach their ultimate goal of winning a Stanley Cup.
Mike Keenan signed on as the head coach in 2007.
Since then the Flames have failed to make it past the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
No word yet on who will replace Keenan or where Keenan will go.
