A Calgary man convicted of murder for bashing another man to death with a toilet-tank lid will not get a new trial.

The Supreme Court of Canada will not hear Tyler Lee Nolet's appeal of his second-degree murder conviction in the death of Kenny Wong five years ago.

Wong, 24, was killed during an incident at Cowboys nightclub on Olympic Way S.E. in August 2008.  The two apparently knew each other from a prior altercation.

Nolet said at his trial that he felt threatened when he spotted Wong at the bar and claimed he was acting in self-defence.

The trial judge said he was likely out for revenge over a previous run-in and sentenced Nolet to life in prison with no chance of parole for 12 years.

Canada's highest court refused to hear Nolet's case.
