Joelle Tomlinson

Joelle Tomlinson graduated from Ryerson University in Toronto in 2012 and quickly jumped into the media business. From photographer and newspaper writer to live reporter, Joelle loves one-on-one interviews, community engagement and the human element in any story. Born and raised in Saskatoon, Joelle honed her hosting skills at Global Saskatoon where she worked the morning show for four years.

Joelle’s personal interests include running, spinning (on a bike, not in circles), travelling, any form of coffee and baking. Her number one priority is family, particularly after losing a brother to a Fentanyl overdose.  Joelle talks publicly about this experience with an eye to helping others struggling with mental health or addictions.

Joelle was named the Western Association of Broadcasting’s Leader of Tomorrow in 2017.

On September 9, 1960, CTV News Calgary (CFCN) went on the air for the first time and was the first independent television station in Canada.

The first broadcast was a 30-minute news program, followed by two movies, bringing then owner H. Gordon Love’s life-long dream to reality.

CFCN became a member of the Canadian Television Network (CTV) in October 1961 and one of the station’s longest running shows, The Buck Shot Show, started in 1967.

CTV News Calgary, created a number of firsts in Canadian television, as an owned and operated local of CTV News.

  • First to produce a Canadian Football League game from the prairies for CTV
  • Instituting instant replay in Western Canada
  • Brought Crime Stoppers to Calgary
  • Initiated Child Find on television

Canada’s largest telecommunications company, Bell Canada Enterprises, has owned CTV News Calgary since 2000.
