Police in Airdrie are appealing to the public for help to locate a vehicle that is believed to be involved in an attempted murder outside a local business on the weekend.

Police were called to reports of shots fired near a fitness centre on Railway Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday and found an adult male suffering from several gunshot wounds.

The man was taken to hospital in Calgary and is in stable condition. Police say he is cooperating in the investigation.

Investigators have not released a motive for the shooting but say they believe the victim exchanged words with the occupants of a passing vehicle while walking in the area.

Police are still looking for two adult male suspects who were seen leaving the scene and say a grey or dark coloured SUV may be involved in the incident.

Suspect one is described as: male, early 20s, Caucasian, stocky build, wearing dark clothing and a white ball cap.

Suspect two is described as: male, early 20s, Caucasian, average build, no hat.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage from a number of locations in the area and say both suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information that may help RCMP to locate the suspects or the vehicle is asked to call the Airdrie office at 403-945-7267, local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)
