For the second time this month, an unexploded explosive ordnance has been located by a member of the public in a southwest park.

On Monday July 15, members of the CPS Tactical Team responded to Weaselhead Park following the discovery of an explosive device in the former site of the Sarcee Military Training Range.  The TAC team rendered the object safe and removed it from the area.

Monday’s discovery followed a similar finding in the park on July 2. Officials believe recent flooding has caused the long buried explosive devices to surface.

Members of The City of Calgary Parks and the Department of National Defence are screening the area to ensure the park is safe when it reopens to the public.  The park suffered significant damage in June’s flooding and, with the exception of the pathway, remains closed.

Anyone who encounters a suspicious device which could be a bomb is asked not to touch the item and to call 911immediately.
