Tsuu T'ina Nation Police are cracking down on motorists using the reserve as a shortcut to avoid traffic.
In just one hour in September, band police officers handed out more than 30 trespassing tickets to motorists driving through the reserve to save time.
Tsuu T'ina Nation Police Sgt., Al Palmer, says many of the drivers are from outlying areas like Priddis, Black Diamond and Millarville, but he says officers have noticed an increase in the number of Calgarians cutting through the nation.
"The issue is when traffic increases we get a profound effect on the community. Roads take a beating and there is liability. People come onto private property, if an accident happens, there are liability issues."
Tickets for trespassing range from $150 to $300.
Sgt. Palmer says many of the trespassing motorists are also speeding, and get ticketed for that as well.
