Police in Cochrane are investigating after a resident found sewing needles in two chocolate bars that were handed out on Halloween night.
Cochrane RCMP was notified of the candy tampering on October 31 and say the complainant was checking through their children’s candy when they made the discovery.
One needle was found in a large O’Henry bar and a second was found in a large Kit Kat bar.
Amanda Goodstoney says her kids met up with other family members in Cochrane and went trick or treating on the west side of Gleneagles on Halloween night.
“My oldest daughter started going through the candy, she opened up one she wanted so bad, and then she was like ‘Mom, come here,’ and I looked and there was a needle sticking out of the chocolate bar and I was like what? I was in shock.” said Goodstoney.
Goodstoney says she was calling RCMP when her daughter found another tainted bar of chocolate among the goodies.
“So it was like, not one, but two and that’s when I started to really freak out and I told the kids don’t touch the candies, just don’t touch it,” she said.
She says this is the first time they've found dangerous objects in the children's Halloween loot.
"To actually see it and to actually experience it was terrifying, cause all the what-ifs and all that stuff goes through your head," she said.
She says the experience has ruined Halloween for her family and that they likely won’t be going door-to-door in the future.
“I think we as a family have decided that was our last time ever going out trick or treating like that because it’s just not worth it, it’s not worth putting my kids at risk anymore,” she said.
Police are now working to determine exactly where the tainted candy came from.
