Calgary police are investigating a New Year's Day morning incident in Killarney in which several people were shot

Shortly after 5:00 a.m., emergency crews responded to a home in the 1900 block of 36 St. S..W following multiple calls to 911 reporting gunshots.

Responding officers located five people in and around the house with gunshot wounds.

According to EMS spokesperson Adam Loria, EMS crews transported multiple patients to hospital, including one person in life threatening condition.

CPS Det. Steve Adair says two other people later showed up at local hospitals for treatment.

The victims, male and female, range in age from the early twenties to thirties.

The most severely injured victim remained in the Foothills Hospital in life threatening condition. A cousin of the victim confirmed the man's identity as Abdullahi Ahmed, a Calgarian in his twenties. The gunshot victim was of Somali heritage and relocated to Calgary six or seven years ago.

According to the cousin, Ahmed suffered a gunshot wound to his forehead and bullet fragments remain inside his skull. Ahmed was not expected to survive and his mother was en route to Calgary from Toronto.

On Thursday afternoon, police confirmed the victim succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy into the man's death is scheduled for January 2.

Approximately 50 people were in the home at the time of the suspected shooting. CPS members continue to interview witnesses but suspect a number of people fled the scene during the incident.
