Calgary police are investigating an afternoon attack along 10 Ave. S.W.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 3:15 p.m. following reports of gunfire in front of a business near the intersection of 12 St. and 10 Ave. S.W
According to police, the victim had been stabbed in front of the Community Natural Foods store and attempted to drive away from the scene with a woman, believed to be his daughter. Due to the severity of the man's injuries, the man stopped his vehicle a short distance from the stabbing scene.
"We heard some noise out on the street so a staff member came out to see what was happening," says Lorna Curran, communication manager with CUPS. "She found an injured driver in the Toyota truck and she alerted other staff members that someone was injured so our medical staff came down and did an assessment....we called 911 and police arrived on the scene."
On arrival, officers located a male suffering from stab wounds at a location two blocks east of the intersection. Police say there was no further indication that shots had been fired.
Adam Loria with EMS says the victim was transported to the Foothills Hospital in critical condition.
The CPS Homicide Unit is investigating the incident. 10 Ave. has been closed to traffic between 9 St. S.W. and 12 St. S.W.
