Serious crash closes part of Highway 1 near Bassano, Alta.

RCMP responded to a serious crash on Highway 1 near Bassano, Alta., on Monday morning.

The collision occurred approximately two kilometres east of Highway 56.

Alberta Health Services said EMS was called to the area around 8:30 a.m. for a single-vehicle crash involving three adults.

One adult patient was flown to hospital in Calgary in serious condition by STARS. The two other patients were taken to hospital by EMS in serious but stable condition.

The highway was fully closed for some time, but an eastbound lane and a westbound lane have since been opened.

RCMP encouraged motorists to avoid the area if possible, plan alternate routes and check 511 Alberta for up-to-date highway conditions.
