A man in his 50s was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a truck in downtown Calgary on Monday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m., police say the man was attempting to cross 9th Avenue near 3rd Street S.E., but that he was not in the crosswalk when he was struck by an eastbound 2004 GMC Sierra.

The driver initially kept driving but quickly returned to the scene.

Impairment and excessive speed are not believed to be factors.

Police are asking anyone who saw the incident or has dash-cam video of it to contact them at 403-266-1234.
