The Crown is appealing the sentences handed down to a former southern Alberta couple who were found guilty in the death of their 18-month old son.
David and Collet Stephan were found guilty in a Lethbridge court last month of failing to provide the necessaries of life for their toddler Ezekiel.
The boy died of bacterial meningitis in 2012 and the jury in the case found the couple waited too long to get their son the help he needed
David Stephan received four months in jail and his wife Collet was handed a conditional sentence, which amounted to strict house arrest and community service.
On Thursday, the Crown said that it is appealing on six points and says it will argue that the sentence wasn't proportionate to the gravity of the offence or the degree of responsibility of the offenders.
The Crown is also appealing four points relating to the judge’s ruling.
A court date has not yet been set for the appeal.
