Ten days have passed since Nathan O’Brien and his grandparents, Alvin and Kathy Liknes, disappeared from a southwest home and police are still searching for any sign of the trio.
On Wednesday, police initiated a search at the Spyhill Landfill in northwest Calgary in connection to the case. So far there is no word on what led them there.
Investigators also continue to comb through a rural property east of Airdrie, Alberta and have been walking the fields shoulder to shoulder for days.
So far they have been unable to locate the three but police say they will continue to search for as long as in takes.
“We have to be thorough and because of the size of that we’ve employed our RCMP partners and it’s going to take time to search that area properly,” said Kevin Brookwell of the Calgary Police Service “We are going to dedicate whatever resourcing we need to and be vigilant and continue for as long as we need to.”
Police, fire and emergency vehicles were at the Garland farm again on Wednesday searching the property.
EMS is at the scene as a precautionary measure to help responders deal with the heat.
The Airdrie Fire Department was also called in as there could be chemicals at the farm that may need to be contained.
Investigators say they have seized some items there and at the Liknes home in Calgary and have sent them for forensic testing.
Police are still looking to talk to anyone who attended an estate sale at the home on June 28th and 29th.
“We anticipated there was over 200 people that initially went to that estate sale so far 88 people have come forward. So we would still like to have folks that were part of that estate sale come forward. We absolutely are asking folks who live in the area or anybody that may have additional information to come forward,” said Brookwell.
Brookwell says police are asking people to have a look around their own property for anything missing or suspicious.
“No matter where you are if you see anything suspicious, a vehicle, a person, any kind of activity, you absolutely need to call us,” said Brookwell. “We are welcoming tips and still require information from the public.”
Police are also still interested in talking to anyone with information of the green truck that was captured on surveillance footage near the Liknes home.
“We are still asking the public if they have, I mean it’s a unique truck in its colour and its age and the year, if folks know of any other vehicle that potentially could match that description, absolutely give us a call.”
