All day Monday rescue crews were searching for a kayaker that went missing in Kananaskis Country on Sunday evening.
At around 6 p.m. Sunday, crews were called to Upper Kananaskis Lake, south of Canmore, after witnesses reported hearing cries of help from someone out on the water.
One of the people attempted to swim out to the location where the person was seen, but by the time they got there, no one was found.
Crews with an Alpine helicopter were able to rescue the person who attempted to rescue the person in distress, but they could not locate the other person.
“When Alpine arrived, they saw this person on the island,” said EMS supervisor Jamie Campbell. “They landed and picked them up and brought them to shore and then lifted off again to look for this person that had apparently got distress in the lake.”
A search did turn up a life jacket and a kayak in the water, but nothing more Monday.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Kananaskis RCMP at 403-591-7708.
