Police in Lethbridge are investigating the city’s first homicide of 2016 after a woman was found dead inside a south side home on Sunday.
At just after 2 p.m. on January 17, police were called to a home in the 300 block of Normandy Road S. after relatives of the victim were unable to contact her.
An autopsy, conducted in Calgary late Monday afternoon, has identified the victim as Irene Carter, 78.
Officials say Carter was stabbed to death.
The investigation is now focusing on Carter’s activities prior to her death, and officers are already canvassing the neighbourhood and have interviewed a number of the victim’s family and friends.
Police are continuing to search the scene for clues and will likely keep it blocked off until late Tuesday or Wednesday.
