Police are now looking for three armed men who they say robbed a newly opened No Frills store in southwest Calgary.
At about 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, police say three men who were armed with weapons, rushed into the store located at 85 Street and 9 Avenue S.W. and assaulted a security guard.
Staff, who were upstairs at the time spotted the men and witnessed the attack, quickly locked themselves into the office, turned out all the lights, and called police.
According to police, the manager of the store was caught downstairs and was threatened, forced to open the cash room.
An undisclosed amount of cash was taken and the suspects then fled the scene in a stolen Ford F350 truck.
Police haven’t said what kind of weapons the suspects used in the robbery.
This is the second time in a week that a No Frills store has been robbed in the Calgary area.
Last week, the No Frills location in Airdrie was robbed in the late evening hours.
A store employee there was taken hostage and forced to open the store for the thieves.
Police aren’t saying if the two incidents are connected.
