The United Way of Calgary and Area is calling on Calgarians to apply superhero strength to support social challenges in the city and many dressed up on Thursday to launch this year’s campaign.
“We’re trying to give the message that during the flood, lots of superheroes stepped up in the City of Calgary and we’re saying to people please don’t put away your capes and masks just yet because the need is greater than ever and we need you to be superheroes for us for the rest of this year,” said Lucy Miller, United Way’s President and CEO.
The United Way invests donations in three areas; poverty, kids and communities.
“This year it’s all about all of us coming together and recognizing that no matter who we are in a community, we have super powers if we all work together,” said Miller.
Miller says they know the need is greater than ever before so they didn’t set a number this year.
“If there was a year you needed to give, or you could give, this is the year to do it,” said Miller.
The agency supports 100 others and also more than 200 programs in the Calgary area.
