A 40-year-old man has been removed from life support and has succumbed to the injuries he suffered in an assault that occurred at the Calgary Remand Centre.

An injured inmate, later identified as Alvin Clifford Chiniquay, was found in medical distress on the morning of Friday, September 9.

EMS and firefighters resuscitated Chiniquay and the man was transported from the facility by ambulance in life-threatening condition. On Thursday, nearly two weeks after the attack, Chiniquay passed away in hospital.

Police have arrested Chiniquay’s cellmate and charges are pending against the unnamed man.

The Calgary Police Service homicide unit is leading the investigation into Chiniquay’s death.
