A large crowd of people gathered in Sue Higgins Park on Sunday night in memory of a dog and cat found dead in a southeast alley, their mouths taped shut.
More than 140 people lit candles in memory of the animals in the hopes that whoever committed the heinous act are brought to justice.
On January 9, a Siberian Husky was found dead in an alley in the 200 block of 99 Ave. S.E.
Its muzzle was taped shut with clear medical tape and it appears the animal starved to death, given its emaciated condition.
Last week, at a separate location in the same alley, a cat was found dead with green painter’s tape covering most of its face.
The vigil on Sunday night was organized by the group, ‘A Voice for Abuse and Neglected Animals in Calgary’.
A reward leading to a conviction in these cases has grown through online donations to more than $49,000.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Humane Society.
