Every month CTV partners up with Volunteer Calgary to bring you stories about outstanding volunteers.
Hanging up the phone after my conversation with Terry, I couldn't help but smile. Terry Deets volunteers with the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank, and he loves what he does. Years ago Terry picked up a paper, and saw that the Food Bank was in need of volunteers. He attended the informational meeting, and when they asked what type of volunteer job he wanted to do, he said "I want to help the community and meet other people". He has done just that. Volunteering from 8 to 4:30 Monday to Friday, Terry puts in countless hours helping others. Terry does it all; from ensuring the lobby area is clean for the clients upon their arrival, to helping load hampers in the afternoon. Terry says since he can load up to 150 hampers in an afternoon he has no need to put in another workout for the day! Recently, Terry was awarded the "Safety Award" at the Food Bank. When you talk to Terry you can hear the enthusiasm in his voice and the pride he has in his job.
