We won't carry above-seasonal temperatures into 2025
It's beginning to look (and feel) a lot more like winter in Calgary.
Many Calgarians woke up to a fresh dusting of snow Monday morning, thanks to some overnight flurries, and more light snow is expected for the final day of 2024.
The southern half of the province remains cloaked in flurry-laden clouds for the next five days, with models suggesting up to 11 centimetres of snow could fall on parts of Calgary between now and Thursday.
A pattern change is underway on the temperature front as well.
It truly has been quite a mild holiday season so far, but we won't carry above-seasonal temperatures into 2025.
Instead, cold air coming from the northwest will only get us to a high of -8 C on New Year's Eve, with a low of -14 C (not factoring wind chill).
The cooling trend continues for the rest of the week, with a high of just -13 C on New Year's Day, with flurries.
While the winter weather will benefit the freezing of lakes and outdoor rinks, a friendly reminder to dress to the conditions on NYE, especially if you plan to be outside to ring in the new year!
