The annual Webber Academy basketball tournament for the school’s alumni carried additional enthusiasm following the release of a former teacher from an Indonesian prison.
Students and staff say they are relieved by the news Neil Bantleman’s sexual assault conviction has been overturned.
Bantleman continues to maintain close ties with his former colleagues.
“I spoke to Neil Bantleman this morning, we chatted for about half an hour,” said Webber Academy teacher Joel Chalifoux. “I sent him a message saying the reunion is on, a lot of the kids are excited.”
“He sent a message back saying thank you for the support. He taught so many of these children.”
On Friday, Bantleman’s conviction was overturned by the Jakarta High Court. Bantleman’s lawyer said the fictitious allegations against his client were financially motivated.
