Warm weather has brought rafters to Calgary’s rivers in droves, and one woman taking part needed to be rescued on Sunday night.

At about 7 p.m., a raft, carrying six people, flipped over in the water near Edworthy Park.

The boat got pinned up against the pedestrian bridge in the park, with five of the passenger getting swept free by the current.

A sixth person, a woman in her 20s, held onto the capsized raft and started calling for help.

Firefighters who attended the scene rappelled down from the bridge to keep the woman secure until a rescue boat could arrive.

Officials say they had to work to keep civilians from attempting to go out onto the water to rescue the woman for fears they could get trapped too.

They say everyone on board the raft was wearing lifejackets.
