A weekend trip to the backcountry took a terrifying turn for a climber near Canmore on Saturday afternoon.
A young woman, believed to be in her twenties, fell a distance of over seven meters from the side of a cliff and landed on the rocks below.
The fall happened in Grassi Lakes, a popular area for climbing and hiking.
Witnesses say the victim was on the ground for at least an hour before EMS crews arrived on the scene.
The steep terrain made it diffcult for emergency responders to retrieve the patient and return her to the waiting ambulance.
STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched to the scene.
