The Calgary Wranglers ended 2024 on a winning note, defeating the Abbotsford Canucks 4-3 at the Saddledome Monday night.

The Wranglers got off to a fast start in the first period, getting goals from Artem Grushnikov and William Stromgren, to take a 2-0 lead.

The goal from Grushnikov was his first as a Wrangler.

In the second, Abbotsford bounced back, getting a goal from Jonathan Lekkerimaki, who scored his 12th goal of the season.

With just over four minutes left in the third, Nate Smith tipped in a shot from Jett Woo to tie it up at 2-2.

However, in the third period, Clark Bishop scored with less than two minutes left to put the Wranglers back in the lead, then rolled another one down the ice and into the empty net to make it 4-2.

Linus Karlsson scored with nine seconds left to make it a one-goal game, but it was too little, too late.

Next up for both squads is a rematch Wednesday at the Saddledome, with puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m.
