Icy road conditions may be partly to blame for a fatal crash at Nose Creek Park in Airdrie.
Emergency crews were called to Main Street at about 11:45 a.m. Thursday after the driver of a small car lost control and crashed into a pond at the bottom of an embankment.
The vehicle overturned in the water and fire crews had to pull the unconscious driver from the car.
The man was rushed to Foothills Hospital in Calgary in life threatening condition. He later died from his injuries.
The Calgary Fire Department dive team was called in to check the water and make sure there were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Main Street between Summerfield Boulevard and Erin Drive was closed down while RCMP investigated.
Police say road conditions at time were poor with ice, snow, and poor visibility.
The identity of the man has not been released.
