A Friday evening fire near Balzac sent flames towering into the air, prompting a massive response from fire crews from neighbouring districts.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., fire crews responded to a rural property near the intersection of Township Road 264 and Range Road 10 following reports of an active fire. Members of the Rocky View, Airdrie, and Irricana fire departments encountered a shed and barn engulfed in flames and launched an attack on the fire.

Despite the efforts of firefighters, the barn was decimated. Crews successfully prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring homes and the Place for Paws animal boarding facility. No injuries have been reported.

Fire crews remained at the scene throughout the night to ensure hotspots did not reignite.

According to the owner of the property, the barn housed four vintage trucks, all of which were claimed by the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
