A forecasted wind chill approaching minus 40 degrees Celsius will not stop a traditional outdoor holiday concert from taking the stage on Saturday afternoon.
The 15th annual Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is scheduled to roll into the North Pole Station (the south parking lot of the Anderson LRT station) at 4:00 p.m.
The event is a fundraiser for the Calgary Food Bank. Admission is free but guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or a financial donation for the organization.
Scheduled activities include:
- Ice carving
- Visits to Santa’s Living Room
- Hot Chocolate
- The Mistletoe Café
The concert is set to kick off at 5:00 p.m. with performances by Sarah McLachlan, The Tenors, and Doc Walker & Melanie Doane.
Matt Dusk had been scheduled to play the Calgary show but the jazz singer’s performance was cancelled due to a death in his family.
Peter Mansbridge will host the event and Mayor Nenshi and Brett W. Wilson are scheduled to make appearances.
The CP Holiday Trains are stopping in towns and cities throughout North America until December 19, 2013, raising funds for local food banks.
