Thousands of pairs of ginch and knickers were delivered to the Mustard Seed on Monday and the donation couldn’t come at a better time as temperatures dip into the minus double digits.
Brent King started GotGinch and Need Knickers in 2008 to fill the need for under garments in Canadian Shelters, an issue he says is often over looked.
“Five years ago exactly, I came here to the Mustard Seed and asked them what they needed, how I can help them with the programs they’re working on and they told me the most needed item was underwear,” said King.
On Monday, the group dropped off 5000 pairs of men’s and women’s underwear at the Mustard Seed.
“We are extremely grateful for GotGinch and Need Knickers and their yearly donation of new underwear for homeless men and women,” says Cliff Wiebe, Managing Director of The Mustard Seed. “It is such a basic need that makes a big difference to the health and morale of our guests.”
GotGinch and Need Knickers is in its sixth year and has donated 225,000 pairs of underwear to homeless facilities across the country since its inception.
The donation came at the perfect time as temperatures dropped over the weekend and occupancy at local shelters is expected to increase.
“We’re all thinking about the folks on the street right now and this is just one way to help them out a little bit,” said King.
“There’s also some good people getting helped out for trouble if they need,” said shelter resident, Cliff.
