Investigators with the Calgary Fire Department continue to search for the cause of an early morning fire in a strip mall that faces Blackfoot Trail.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., fire crews responded to Tail Lights Truck & Auto in the 6000 block of 6 Street Southeast after a fire alarm in the business was sounded.
“The first arriving crew determined that the fire was too far advanced for crews to go inside,” said Calgary Fire Department District Chief Tim Minue. “We fought it defensively from the exterior.”
Firefighters determined there was nobody inside the business and their efforts prevent the fire from spreading throughout the neighbouring units in the strip mall.
“The damage, the bulk of the damage was contained to the original source building,” said District Chief Minue. “Some damage to the neighbouring (businesses) but minor in nature.”
Fire crews extinguished the blaze and remained on the scene throughout the morning to ensure hotspots did not reignite.
The roof of Tail Lights Truck & Auto was severely damaged and city safe code officers were deployed to ensure the stip mall was structurally sound.
