An Airdrie man is accused of sexually assaulting a youth who was once in his care and is now facing charges.

Rodney James Marcynuik, 39, is charged with one count each of sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, and sexual exploitation by a person in trust or authority.

Police say a man came forward in August 2013 with information and claimed he had been sexually abused while in a local foster home.

The alleged offences occurred while the child lived with the accused in Calgary and Airdrie between June 2003 and November 2008.

Marcynuik was arrested on Monday, September 30, 2013.

Police say they believe that 18 foster children, all boys, have lived under Marcynuik and his wife’s care, between 2001 and 2010.

Police say they have not yet spoken with all 18 boys that lived in the home and that the investigation is ongoing.
