In order to combat a growing deficit, the public school division in Fort McMurray is looking at cutting the number of school days for students.

The move aims at reducing the amount of days buses would be required to run, which would save the school district about $800,000.

There would still be a few five day weeks so that teachers can fit in their required amount of teaching hours.

Parents who’ve attended meetings on the issue aren’t too thrilled with the proposal.

The board is expected to come back with a decision by next week.

The Fort McMurray Public School Division is dealing with a $4.5M deficit.
