RCMP have charged two men, associated with the Malicious Crew Motorcycle Club, with attempted murder after a man was found walking near Sylvan Lake with gunshot wounds.
The injured man was found suffering from gunshot wounds on June 3 and was rushed to hospital where he had surgery. RCMP say he is expected to survive.
Police were able to identify two suspects in the incident.
Daniel Huddlestone,34, and Cameron Monkman,28, are charged with attempted murder using a firearm, robbery with a firearm, aggregated assault, possession of a restricted weapon, and other weapons related offences.
Monkman is also charged with possession of marijuana.
Police say both are associated to the Malicious Crew Motorcycle Club.
Earlier this week, RCMP in Sylvan Lake charged Andrew Waunch, 30, with attempted murder in a separate incident that also happened in the area on June 3.
RCMP say there has been no link associated to the offences committed by Andrew Waunch and those committed by Daniel Huddlestone and Cameron Monkman.
Police say that although the two offences occurred during the same time period and in the same geographic area, Andrew Waunch has no known link to the Malicious Crew but he is an associate of Daniel Huddlestone.
RCMP also say that the events do not mean there is an increase in crime in the area.
“The RCMP is committed to providing a safe community, as it always has been. That’s going to be our priority and we’re going to continue to bring in resources to address those issues if, in fact, there is an increase,“ said Sylvan Lake RCMP Sgt Michelle Boutin. “We’ve seen the crime rate in Sylvan Lake decrease over the past several years. We’ve been effective in doing so there and we’re please with that.”
Huddlestone is currently in police custody and both men will next appear in court June 27th.
