RCMP detachments across Alberta and sections of western Canada are on the lookout for 48-year-old Michael Sean Stanley, a convicted sex offender who breached his release conditions and poses a serious risk to the public.

Stanley has a long history of sexual offences committed against women and children.

Following his 2011 release from prison, Stanley was required to remain in the Edmonton vicinity. On October 1, Stanley’s electronic monitoring leg bracelet was located on top of a building in Lloydminster.

Several days later, and more than 500 kilometres from Lloydminster, Lethbridge police located and seized a Chevrolet Blazer which Stanley had been driving. Members of Stanley’s family reside in Lethbridge and police have confirmed Stanley was in the southern Alberta city as recently as October 4.

Lethbridge Regional Police, in cooperation with the Edmonton Police Service, are investigating a number of possible Stanley sightings at locations across the city. Officers have not confirmed any of the tips from the public.

Schools in the Lethbridge area are on high alert but have not issued lockdowns.

“Lockdowns are judgments that are made when we believe there is an immediate danger to students,” said Cheryl Gilmore of  Lethbridge School District No. 51. “Certainly with the information that we have we will be staying in touch with the police service.”

“We don't have any confirmed reports of the individual near or in the proximity of our schools.”

Anyone with information about Stanley’s current whereabouts is asked to contact Lethbridge police, 403-328-4444, or tips may be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers Lethbridge & Southern Alberta.
